Phnom penh: The Kingdom of Cambodia and the Czech Republic have expressed appreciation for their long-standing bilateral ties, fruitful cooperation, and mutual support at both bilateral and multilateral levels. This mutual recognition was made during a farewell meeting between Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and outgoing Czech Ambassador H.E. Martin V¡vra, held this morning at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Martin V¡vra welcomed the continued advancement of cooperation between the two countries and highlighted the Czech Republic’s contributions to Cambodia’s development, particularly in the fields of social affairs and health. In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed gratitude to the Czech Republic for its support to Cambodia at all stages. He underlined that the presence of the Czech Embassy in Phnom Penh is a symbol of the strong relationship between the two nations.
Regarding the border tensions with Thailand, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reiterated Cambodia’s unwavering position to resolve the issue peacefully through bilateral mechanisms and through the International Court of Justice (ICJ). ‘Cambodia does not want war, but reserves its right to self-defence and retaliation,’ he stressed.
The two sides also exchanged views on several global issues, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East, and the ongoing tariff war, which has disrupted international trade and global economic stability. They also noted the weakening international roles and mechanisms, particularly the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
