Phnom penh: The Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of Cyprus have moved to significantly deepen bilateral relations, reaching an agreement in principle to establish a "Tourism Pole" aimed at driving mutual economic growth through enhanced traveller exchanges and joint investment.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the initiative was a centerpiece of the annual review meeting held Wednesday between H.E. Dr. Chea Chandboribo, Cambodia's Ambassador to Cyprus, and Mr. Christopher Larcou, Honorary Consul of Cambodia in Nicosia. During the session, both officials outlined a strategic roadmap for 2026, prioritising sectors that include joint promotional programmes, coordinated participation in international trade fairs, and direct networking between tourism agencies and private investors.

The proposed "Tourism Pole" will involve efforts to increase collaboration with Cambodian and Cypriot media outlets to better highlight investment opportunities and cultural heritage. Additionally, there will be a focus on expanding networks within the public and private sectors to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) to Cambodia.

Ambassador Dr. Chea Chandboribo expressed high regard for Mr. Larcou's "active and effective" role in bolstering Cambodia's diplomatic prestige within Cyprus. The meeting noted that 2025 saw significant progress in consular service efficiency and the promotion of bilateral trade and cultural exchange.
