Phnom penh: The Kingdom of Cambodia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia have highlighted the importance of enhancing their bilateral relations and cooperation during the Second Political Consultations between their Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting, which took place in Phnom Penh last week, was co-chaired by H.E. Meas Kim Heng, Secretary of State at the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), and H.E. Mnatsakan Safaryan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the friendships developed between the two nations and noted that 2027 will mark the 35th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, symbolizing more than three decades of friendship, mutual respect, understanding, and shared values.
The discussions focused on advancing political and economic cooperation, with in-depth talks on strengthening and deepening relations in various areas, including trade and investment, agriculture and agro-industry, education, digitalisation, and tourism. Both sides agreed to explore opportunities for cooperation within regional and international frameworks such as ASEAN, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the United Nations.
Cambodia is set to welcome a high-level delegation from Armenia to the 20e Francophonie Summit, which will occur in November 2026 in Phnom Penh. Additionally, both parties exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including updates on the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, and affirmed their commitment to promoting peace, stability, and development regionally and globally while upholding a rules-based international order.
The Political Consultations concluded with both Co-chairs agreeing to find a mutually convenient date for the next round of discussions in Armenia in the near future.
