Banteay Meanchey Governor Welcomes Returning Cambodian Migrant Workers from Thailand

Banteay meanchey: Banteay Meanchey Provincial Governor H.E. Oum Reatrey personally greeted Cambodian migrant workers returning from Thailand via the Poipet International Border Gate on Aug. 11 afternoon. The event underscored the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to supporting returning workers, with direct assistance from the Banteay Meanchey provincial authorities.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in his address, H.E. Oum Reatrey emphasised the Royal Government’s humanitarian policies under the leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia. He urged Cambodian workers to return voluntarily before facing potential deportation by Thai authorities. The Royal Government, he noted, welcomes all returnees, regardless of their documentation status.

To streamline the reintegration process, the Banteay Meanchey provincial administration, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and other relevant agencies, has established border reception centres. These facilities provide temporary shelter, meals, medical care, free transportation to home provinces, and job placement assistance.

The Governor also highlighted ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training to connect returnees with employment opportunities, citing strong domestic labor demand. Returning workers expressed gratitude for the warm reception.

“I’m deeply moved by the provincial authorities’ personal welcome. It shows we’re not alone-the Royal Government is here for us,” said Ms. Srouy Loeung, 52, from Banteay Meanchey. Mr. Chea Phalla, 45, from Battambang province, shared his optimism: “With the Ministry of Labour’s support, I’ll seek work here. Being near my family will improve my life.”

According to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, the recent nationwide job forum campaign (Aug. 2-10, 2025) recorded significant results: 269 forums held, 112,267 job vacancies offered, 79,911 participants, and 15,332 on-the-spot hires. These figures demonstrate the Royal Government’s proactive measures to expand employment opportunities, particularly for returning migrant workers.
