Phnom penh: The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) has continued its on-the-ground monitoring efforts at the Cambodia-Thailand border, conducting an observation mission at the O'Smach Border Checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey province. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, stated that the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) on Sunday morning facilitated the AOT in observing, verifying, and reporting on the border situation to ensure full compliance with the Joint Declaration following the ceasefire. The mission forms part of ongoing efforts to uphold transparency and reinforce confidence in the implementation of agreed measures between the two countries. The visit also marked a transition in ASEAN leadership, with Malaysia handing over its role as Chair to the Philippines, which will continue to lead the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia under its rotating chairmanship. Cambodia reiterated its strong support for the AOT's role in ensuring that ceasefi re arrangements are effectively implemented, highlighting the importance of accountability and mutual trust in maintaining stability along the border. The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed their firm and unwavering commitment to fully respect and implement all relevant agreements between Cambodia and Thailand, including the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on Dec. 27, 2025, and the Joint Declaration on Peace on Oct. 26, 2025. These continued efforts reflect Cambodia's dedication to ensuring a swift return to normalcy and securing long-term peace and stability along the shared border.
