ASEAN Leaders Seek Ways to Build Resilient Community

The ASEAN Leaders have agreed to build resilient community in the region, seeking cooperation to encounter major issues – economic recovery, climate change, and fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

The commitment was made in the 40th ASEAN Summit (Plenary Session) held in Phnom Penh on Nov. 11 under the chairmanship of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Chair of ASEAN 2022.

During the meeting, the ASEAN Leaders looked at how the region can deepen regional integration through the expansion of trade relations and so on, said H.E. Kung Phoak, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Spokesperson of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits.

The Leaders also expressed their support for the new Secretary General of ASEAN who is Cambodian, he said in the daily media briefing at the Media Centre.

Four key documents were adopted by the ASEAN Leaders, he said, pointing out they are the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on the 55th Anniversary of ASEAN, the ASEAN Leaders’ Vision Statement on ASEAN A.C.T: Addressing Challenges Together, the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on ASEAN Connectivity Post-2025 Agenda, and the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on the Application of Timor-Leste for ASEAN Membership.
