Phnom penh: Cambodian Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra announced that the official report from the joint UNESCO-ICOMOS mission has confirmed extensive damage to the Preah Vihear Temple due to armed attacks in July and December 2025. The report indicates serious threats to the World Heritage property.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the report was published following an inspection conducted by the UNESCO-ICOMOS Advisory Mission from March 1 to 6, 2026. The mission's findings revealed that the integrity, authenticity, and Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) of the Preah Vihear Temple have been significantly impacted by the attacks.

The report detailed 142 damaged areas from the July 2025 attacks and 420 damaged areas from the December 2025 attacks. It described the destruction as 'incomparable' to damage from previous conflicts, with no area spared. The damage extended to temple structures, infrastructure, and tourism facilities.

H.E. Neth Pheaktra expressed concern that UNESCO-ICOMOS assessed the temple as being under 'serious and specific danger,' necessitating urgent conservation efforts. The Minister emphasized that Preah Vihear Temple is a heritage of humanity, stressing the importance of protecting it in accordance with international law and preventing further destruction from armed conflicts.
