Phnom penh: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting Cambodia in promoting natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, and pollution prevention for environmental sustainability and the fight against climate change.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the commitment was made by Ms. Dechen Tsering, UNEP Regional Director and Representative for Asia and the Pacific, during a courtesy call and working discussion with H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, at the Ministry's office in Phnom Penh on May 6.
In the meeting, Ms. Dechen Tsering commended the Ministry of Environment for its cooperation in environmental and natural resource sectors, particularly in implementing activities to promote plastic reduction, manage environmental pollution, and protect natural resources and wildlife, along with adapting to climate change.
H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth expressed appreciation for UNEP's support in expanding cooperation with the Ministry of Environment in areas such as air quality and chemical management, biodiversity conservation, and action plans to enhance climate change resilience in Cambodia.
He highlighted that the Ministry of Environment has initiated numerous measures and campaigns aimed at promoting cleanliness and preventing environmental pollution across water, land, and air to bolster climate change resilience for communities within nature-protected areas in Cambodia.
