Phnom penh: H.E. Huot Hak, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, received a courtesy call from Ms. Vladanka Andreeva, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, on April 6. The meeting centered on enhancing cooperation between Cambodia and the United Nations, with a particular focus on the tourism sector.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the discussions highlighted several key areas for collaboration, including sustainable development through improved policies, promotion of green tourism standards, climate resilience in tourism destinations, and the advancement of community-based tourism. During the meeting, Ms. Vladanka Andreeva expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome and praised Cambodia's infrastructure development, noting significant progress over the past decade.
Ms. Andreeva shared her experience visiting Banteay Chhmar Temple, commending its beauty and historical value within Cambodia's cultural heritage. In response, H.E. Huot Hak acknowledged the United Nations' role in supporting Cambodia's economic, social, and humanitarian development.
Both parties agreed to enhance cooperation in priority areas such as community-based tourism development, improvement of tourism data systems, and the implementation of digital technologies to boost tourism management efficiency. These efforts aim to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Cambodia.
