Preah sihanouk: The joint command of Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration has cracked down on a technology-based fraud (online scam) operation, resulting in the arrest of 29 suspects, according to an official release on Wednesday.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the operation was led by Mr. Min Kompheak, Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk province, in coordination with the prosecutor's office of the Provincial Court. The raid targeted a building located in Village 3, Sangkat 1, Sihanoukville.
During the operation on May 26, specialised forces seized a substantial amount of evidence, including 44 desktop computers and 213 mobile phones, along with other related materials. The authorities took into custody a total of 29 suspects, comprising two females. The detainees included 13 Indian nationals, 11 Nepali nationals (including two females), and five Bangladeshi nationals.
All suspects, along with the seized evidence, have been transferred to the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Police Commissioner's office for further questioning and case preparation. They will later be sent to the provincial court to face legal proceedings.
This operation represents the latest crackdown in the province. Notably, on May 23 and 24, the Provincial Administration's joint command also carried out investigations and raids on two separate locations for similar online scam activities, resulting in the arrest of over 100 suspects.
