Phnom penh: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has urged relevant institutions to further streamline investment procedures and improve conditions to make Cambodia more attractive to both domestic and foreign investors.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, speaking at the inauguration of achievements in Stung Treng city, Stung Treng province, the Prime Minister highlighted that as of August 7, 2026, the four northeastern provinces had received 72 investment project proposals, with a total investment capital of approximately US$2.7 billion, expected to create nearly 80,000 jobs. Of these, 57 projects are currently undergoing the necessary procedures for implementation.
Samdech Thipadei emphasized the strong investment interest in the northeastern region, reflecting the growing potential of Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, and Kratie provinces to attract investment, stimulate local economic activity, and create employment opportunities.
Nationwide, Cambodia had attracted 214 investment projects as of August 7, with a total investment capital of approximately US$4 billion, expected to generate around 140,000 jobs. The Prime Minister highlighted the effectiveness of investment project implementation over the past three years, noting that 95.75 percent of registered investment projects had proceeded to implementation.
The Prime Minister stressed Cambodia's competitiveness as an investment destination and affirmed that the Royal Government will continue simplifying procedures and creating favorable conditions to attract additional investment, regardless of the size of the projects.
He instructed relevant institutions to enhance investment procedures and conditions to further boost Cambodia's attractiveness to investors. Simultaneously, the Royal Government will support and promote informal businesses to enable them to participate more actively in the formal economy, expand business activities, create jobs, and increase income-generating opportunities for the people.
The increasing number of investment proposals in the northeastern region highlights the area's potential, particularly in sectors that can utilize local resources, create employment, and strengthen connectivity among the northeastern provinces and with domestic and regional markets. Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed the importance of maintaining and enhancing Cambodia's competitiveness by reducing procedural complexities and creating a more favorable business environment to attract investment capital and support economic growth in the future.
He also reminded all relevant parties to avoid illegal and illicit economic activities.
