Phnom penh: H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), received Ms. Tania Meyer, Managing Director of the World Bank in Cambodia, and her delegation on Nov. 25 for a courtesy call and working discussion.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting highlighted the robust cooperation between the NBC and the World Bank. The World Bank has been instrumental in providing crucial technical assistance to the NBC, particularly in areas such as international reserve management, crisis management, prevention frameworks, deposit insurance systems, and technological advancement.
Ms. Tania Meyer acknowledged the NBC’s accomplishments in maintaining exchange rate and price stability, strengthening the banking sector, and progressing in Cambodia’s digital payment systems. She urged the NBC to continue sharing its successful experiences with international counterparts in areas like payment system development.
H.E. Dr. Chea Serey detailed Cambodia’s advancements in digital payments, international reserve management, and banking system supervision. She noted that the NBC is open to hosting study visits from foreign central bank delegations interested in learning from Cambodia’s experiences.
She also pointed out the benefits and risks associated with rapid technological progress, especially concerning artificial intelligence, cybercrime, and online scams. Dr. Serey stressed the importance of stakeholder cooperation to improve financial literacy and ensure financial stability.
The meeting also included discussions on Cambodia’s economic development and the challenges posed by external factors.
