Phnom penh: H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), welcomed a delegation from the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, led by President and CEO Mr. Brian McFeeters. The meeting, held in Phnom Penh, included representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia to discuss strengthening ties between the NBC and the U.S. private sector.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the discussions centered around supporting the development of Cambodia's financial sector and promoting sustainable economic growth. Dr. Chea Serey underscored the significance of the economic partnership with the U.S., highlighting its role as a major export market for Cambodia. She noted that U.S. investments contribute to job creation, skills development, economic diversification, and the introduction of international standards.

Dr. Chea also praised the collaboration between NBC and U.S. international payment network companies, particularly in the development of the Bakong tourism programme. This initiative facilitates international tourist payments, supports local businesses, and encourages the use of the Riel currency.

Mr. Brian McFeeters expressed the delegation's aim to enhance cooperation between the American private sector and Cambodian stakeholders. He emphasized the interest of American companies in investing in Cambodia, with a focus on digital finance, human resource development, and small and medium enterprises.

A representative from the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia commended the NBC for its role in maintaining banking system stability, modernizing the payment system, and strengthening the regulatory framework. These efforts have boosted investor confidence and created a favorable environment for investment in Cambodia.
