Phnom penh: Indonesia has expressed its full support for Cambodia's hosting of the International Conference on Combating Online Scams, scheduled to take place in Phnom Penh from September 23 to 24, 2026.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the support was conveyed by H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, during a meeting with H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions and Chairman of the Secretariat of the Ad Hoc Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS), in Phnom Penh on July 28.

During the meeting, H.E. Chhay Sinarith highlighted the strengthened relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Indonesia, particularly in combating online scams. He briefed the Indonesian side on the Royal Government of Cambodia's commitment to combating online scams through the establishment of the CCOS, the Law on Combating Technology-enabled Scams, and other legal instruments. These measures have contributed to campaigns aimed at dismantling online scam networks.

In this regard, Cambodia will host the International Conference on Combating Online Scams to share experiences and discuss additional measures to combat this global crime. H.E. Chhay Sinarith requested Indonesia's support and participation in sharing its experiences at the event.

In response, H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno expressed appreciation to Cambodian authorities for their cooperation in facilitating the repatriation of Indonesian citizens involved in online scams. He commended the results of Cambodian authorities' operations to dismantle online scam activities and described the establishment of the Law on Combating Technology-enabled Scams as a significant milestone.

The Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister stressed that online scam crime is a complex global issue requiring international cooperation. Indonesia stands ready to support Cambodia in strengthening law enforcement capacity and enhancing broader cooperation in combating online scams. He reaffirmed Indonesia's full support for Cambodia's hosting of the conference, saying the initiative demonstrates Cambodia's determination to transform itself into a leading country in combating this global crime.

The two sides also exchanged views on ways to further strengthen cooperation, particularly through information exchange and sharing, as well as training and capacity building for specialised officials.
