Phnom penh: Her Majesty Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk has highlighted the vital importance of peace and security for women and families, stressing that these are essential foundations for Cambodia's sustainable development and social harmony. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in a Royal Message issued to mark the 115th anniversary of International Women's Day on Mar. 8, 2026, the Queen Mother expressed her appreciation for the contributions and achievements of women in Cambodia and around the world in promoting rights, freedom, democracy, and gender equality. Her Majesty praised the theme of this year's celebration - 'Peace and Security for Women and Families' - noting that peace enables women and families to live in dignity, happiness, and well-being while actively contributing to national development. The Queen Mother also underlined that Cambodia's peace did not come by chance but resulted from the efforts and visionary leadership of national leaders, including the late King Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk and former Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen through the Win-Win policy, which helped bring full peace and national unity. Her Majesty expressed appreciation to the Royal Government of Cambodia under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet for continuing efforts to safeguard peace, sovereignty, and public order while promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls in all sectors. The Queen Mother also commended the work of the Ministry of Women's Affairs and various national and international organizations in advancing women's rights and opportunities, encouraging women across the country to continue contributing to family welfare, community development, and national progress.
