Phnom penh: The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) has reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC)’s ongoing and tireless efforts to secure the release of the 18 Cambodian soldiers who remain detained in Thailand.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in a statement released this morning, the MFAIC noted that it has been 127 days since the 18 soldiers were unlawfully taken captive on July 29, 2025. Likewise, it has been 127 days that the RGC has worked tirelessly to campaign for their release, through every possible diplomatic avenue. This includes directly engaging with Thailand, consulting with regional and international leaders, and coordination with relevant international organizations.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), with whom the RGC has closely engaged from the outset, has extended its good offices in ensuring the detained soldiers are treated in accordance with International Humanitarian Law, and that their respective fami
lies are well informed of their well-being. ICRC also expressed readiness to support any future steps for the soldiers’ repatriation.

‘While securing the release of our 18 soldiers remains our highest priority, the RGC extends profound gratitude to all leaders, international organizations, civil society groups, and individuals who have stood with us in calling for their prompt and unconditional release, as reflected in the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration of 26 October 2025,’ the Spokesperson said.
