Phnom penh: Every Cambodian clearly understands that without the establishment of the Dec. 2 Front and the Jan. 7 Victory, the nation would not have achieved the progress it enjoys today. The remarks were made by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State and President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), on his social media networks this morning, marking the 47th anniversary of the founding of the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodian Motherland (SFDCM), formerly known as the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation (KUFNS).
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasized that this historical truth underscores the significance of the national movement that liberated the country from the Khmer Rouge regime. The KUFNS was founded through the unity of Cambodian patriots both inside and outside the country, including notable figures such as Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, current Honorary President of the Supreme Privy Council to His
Majesty the King, the late Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Thamma Pothisal Chea Sim, and Samdech Techo Hun Sen himself. Together, they successfully overthrew the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime on Jan. 7, 1979.
Established in the Snuol Liberation Area of Snuol district, Kratie province on Dec. 2, 1978, the KUFNS was later renamed the ‘Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodian Motherland,’ becoming a leading mass organization of the ruling CPP. ‘In response to the Front’s call, Cambodian people across the country rose and united as a national force, with strong support from the Vietnamese Volunteer Army and many friends around the world, to topple the Democratic Kampuchea (Khmer Rouge) regime, achieving the glorious victory of Jan. 7, 1979,’ Hun Sen continued.
The great victory of Jan. 7, 1979 ended the darkest chapter in Cambodian history and opened a new era in which the people regained their rights, freedoms, and opportunities to rebuild their country. Samdech Techo Hun Sen also called on all comp
atriots to uphold the spirit of solidarity and safeguard the hard-earned peace to ensure further development and prosperity for the nation.
