Phnom penh: The Government of the People's Republic of China has extended significant humanitarian assistance to Cambodia by providing vital mine action equipment, delivered through the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA).
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a formal handover ceremony took place in Phnom Penh on January 8, presided over by H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of CMAA, alongside H.E. Wang Wenbin, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cambodia. The assistance package from China includes metal detectors, essential tools and equipment, and vehicles intended to bolster Cambodia's ongoing mine clearance operations.
During the ceremony, H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch highlighted the significance of China's support, stating that it transcends mere provision of operational equipment. He described the assistance as a crucial protective measure that offers hope and has the potential to transform lives. He emphasized that the newly acquired equipment will significantly improve the safety and efficiency of deminers as they work to clear Cambodian land of remnants from past conflicts.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch acknowledged China's longstanding support, which includes not only material and financial aid but also technical assistance. He also noted China's contributions to capacity building, risk education, and victim assistance. The CMAA First Vice President underscored that this support has been instrumental in protecting countless lives, restoring communities, and empowering survivors to rebuild their futures with dignity.
