Phnom Penh:Cambodia's development journey is closely linked to the expansion of its road network, symbolizing the country's progress from conflict to peace and connectivity.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Prime Minister Hun Manet frequently emphasizes the significance of roads by stating, "Where there is a road, there is hope." This sentiment reflects the crucial role that roads play in Cambodia's economic and social development.
Significant infrastructure projects have been completed, such as the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, which has significantly reduced travel time and strengthened logistics between the two major cities. Additionally, the opening of an upgraded section of National Road No. 7 in Kampong Cham and the inauguration of three road sections linking central and northeastern Cambodia further enhance local transport and logistics. The anticipated completion of the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway is expected to bolster connections within Cambodia and with regional markets.
Internationally, Cambodia has launched a new overland route in collaboration with Laos, facilitating the export of agricultural products to China. This route has already seen shipments of durians, with other products like bananas, mangoes, rice, Pailin longan, and cassava set to follow. Initiatives such as the 'Industrial Development Corridor' and the 'Fish and Rice Corridor' are transforming these roads into critical links between industries and markets.
Cambodia continues to build its road network, unlocking new opportunities for development, improving access to markets, and enhancing the lives of its citizens.
