Cambodian Kitchen Products to Enter French Market Through Bulgarian Trade Partnership

Lyon:Cambodian kitchen staples, spices, and fresh vegetables are set to be introduced to the French market through a new trade initiative facilitated by the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Bulgaria. This economic diplomacy effort aims to expand the reach of Cambodian products across the European Union.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the initiative will initially focus on supplying the SABAY market in Lyon, with plans to expand distribution throughout France and other European markets. Leading the efforts, H.E. Dr. Chea Chanboribo, Ambassador of Cambodia to Bulgaria, coordinated a delegation of Cambodian and French-Cambodian business representatives to meet with Bulgarian trade partners and technical experts.

The delegation, which included Mealea Sovann of Cambodia Logistics Network and Chhor Bun Sam, owner of SABAY market, explored the feasibility of exporting Cambodian agricultural goods to Bulgaria for processing and packaging. These goods will be certified according to European Union food safety standards before being shipped to France.

In Sofia, the delegation conducted several key meetings. Initial discussions with Dr. Maxim Behar, CEO of M3 Communications Group, focused on trade procedures and logistics, setting up a framework to connect Cambodian producers with Bulgarian processors and French distributors. Further talks with OBERON, a Bulgarian packaging enterprise, addressed processing, quality control, and compliance with EU regulations, with both parties committed to further feasibility studies.

Additionally, the delegation met with Ivan, an agricultural engineer with ties to Cambodia, to discuss establishing a supply line for fresh Cambodian vegetables to Lyon. Plans include bi-weekly shipments based on seasonal demand and transport capacity.

This tri-nation strategy positions Cambodia as the source of agricultural products, Bulgaria as the processing hub, and France as the initial retail market. Future plans involve expanding distribution to other European regions with a demand for Southeast Asian cuisine.

Ambassador Dr. Chea Chanboribo emphasized the role of economic diplomacy in connecting Cambodian farmers to international markets and supporting diaspora communities. The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Bulgaria will continue to support stakeholders in transforming these discussions into operational trade agreements.
