Phnom Penh:King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia has urged authorities and citizens to collaborate in providing care and support for elderly, disabled, poor, and vulnerable individuals, ensuring they receive necessary food, care, and appropriate housing within their communities.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the King's appeal was made in a Royal Message for Cambodian Elderly Day and the International Day of Older Persons, observed on October 1. The message highlighted the importance of these occasions in raising awareness of the value, dignity, rights, and roles of older persons, as well as acknowledging the contributions of previous generations to society.
The King emphasized the significance of these observances for younger generations to appreciate and support their elders, who have played vital roles in nurturing and educating them. He noted that older individuals are valuable sources of knowledge and experience, having witnessed key historical events and traditions.
The royal message called for joint efforts by authorities and citizens to ensure that those in need, including the elderly and disabled, receive adequate care and accommodation. The King suggested establishing elderly care centers or utilizing existing religious institutions to provide shelter and assistance.
His Majesty expressed hope that these initiatives would foster a society where all generations coexist harmoniously and with dignity, urging that the spirit of the observed days be cherished by all Cambodians.
