Cambodian Ambassador Refutes Thai Sovereignty Violation Allegations

Baku:Cambodia's Ambassador to France, H.E. Luy David, has firmly dismissed allegations by a Thai delegation that Cambodian civilians living along the border are infringing on Thailand's national sovereignty.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Ambassador Luy David addressed the 134th session of the Permanent Council of La Francophonie (CPF) on October 13, intervening to clarify statements made by the Thai representative. The Thai delegate had claimed that Cambodian residents were occupying Thai territory originally designated for temporary refugee shelters in the 1970s, suggesting that their continued presence violated Thai sovereignty.

Ambassador Luy David, writing on his official Facebook page, refuted these claims as inaccurate and a distortion of historical facts. He supported his stance by citing official reports from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which confirm that Cambodian refugee camps inside Thailand were closed in March 1999 after the final group of 705 refugees was repatriated to Cambodia.
