Phnom penh: Cambodia and Trkiye are strengthening their friendship and cooperation in the information and media sectors through a special training programme for Cambodian journalists in Ankara, Trkiye. The participation of Cambodian journalists in the 'War Journalism' training programme is regarded as an important outcome and catalyst for promoting information and media cooperation between the two countries.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the cooperation is being carried out in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Fields of Information and Communication signed between the governments of Cambodia and Trkiye. The training programme is organised by Trkiye's state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) in cooperation with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Turkish National Police Academy, providing Cambodian journalists with access to training based on international standards.
As part of the programme, Trkiye is sharing expertise and experience with Cambodian journalists, particularly in reporting techniques in emergency situations, combating fake news, and using digital technologies. The cooperation also contributes to strengthening partnerships between Cambodia's Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) and Anadolu Agency, creating opportunities for the direct exchange of news, photographs, and other media content between the two countries.
Beyond professional capacity building, the exchanges between journalists from Cambodia and Trkiye are also expected to promote public diplomacy by enhancing mutual understanding of culture, economic perspectives, and people-to-people relations between the two countries. Media experts have highlighted the active support of the Turkish Government, through TIKA, in providing scholarships and training opportunities for Cambodia as clear evidence of its commitment to enhancing the capacity of Cambodian journalists to meet regional and international standards.
The cooperation is viewed not only as a gesture of diplomatic friendship but also as a strategic step toward developing a more professional, independent, and safer Cambodian media sector capable of effectively carrying out its mission to serve the public. Two Cambodian journalists have been selected to participate in the training: Mr. Yea Chendakhantey from AKP and Him Karuna from the National Television of Cambodia (TVK).
The special 'War Journalism' training programme is being held from Sept. 14 to 25, 2026, in Ankara.
