Cambodia, Germany, and Saudi Arabia Explore Economic Cooperation

Phnom Penh:Cambodia is actively seeking to expand its economic and trade cooperation with Germany and Saudi Arabia, focusing on areas such as bilateral trade, investment, business connectivity, and market access.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Minister of Commerce H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul engaged in separate discussions with the ambassadors from Germany and Saudi Arabia on October 6 at the Ministry of Commerce. These meetings aimed to explore and strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations.

In her meeting with H.E. Ms. Silke R¶fer, the German ambassador, the discussions centered on promoting bilateral trade, attracting investments, and enhancing connections between the business communities of Cambodia and Germany. Both parties underscored the significance of consumer protection, the participation of Cambodian SMEs in global value chains, and the enhancement of production capacity and compliance with international standards. They also focused on boosting Cambodian product competitiveness to improve access to the EU and other international markets. Germany has continued its support for Cambodia through technical assistance and capacity-building programs, particularly in export support and product quality improvement.

During a separate meeting with H.E. Thamer Mohammed A. Algosaibi, the newly appointed Saudi Arabian ambassador, Minister Cham Nimul outlined initiatives to enhance the business environment and foster networking among private-sector stakeholders. Opportunities for investment and business cooperation were highlighted, with the Saudi ambassador expressing interest in investment procedures and participation in the Cambodia Trade Expo and related events. Both nations committed to the effective implementation of their Memorandum of Understanding on Promoting Trade Relations.
