Cambodia and Singapore Explore Enhanced Cooperation in Rural Development

Phnom penh: Minister of Rural Development H.E. Chhay Rithisen on Thursday hosted Singaporean Ambassador H.E. Steven Pang Chee Wee for a discussion aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation in rural development. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) and included senior leadership from the ministry as well as members of the Singaporean delegation.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting centered on Cambodia's development progress, with H.E. Chhay Rithisen crediting the achievements to the leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and former Prime Minister, and the current Prime Minister, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet. The Minister outlined the government's development direction under the Pentagonal Strategy - Phase 1, which aims to achieve Cambodia Vision 2050 of becoming a high-income country.

The discussion also covered the Ministry's recent achievements and future priorities as outlined in the National Policy on Rural Development 2025-2035. This policy focuses on creating prosperous, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable rural communities. H.E. Chhay Rithisen highlighted the strong cooperation between Cambodia and Singapore, specifically in human resource development through training programs supported by Singapore for MRD officials.

Ambassador Steven Pang expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and praised Cambodia's progress in development. He expressed support for the Ministry's efforts to accelerate rural development and improve household incomes sustainably. The ambassador also reiterated Singapore's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation with Cambodia.
