Phnom penh: Cambodia and Lithuania have reached a mutual agreement to conduct a feasibility study on establishing joint cooperation in the field of mine action. Senior Minister H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch, First Vice-President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), announced the development following a bilateral meeting with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys at the CMAA headquarters on Friday afternoon. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the discussions, H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch highlighted Cambodia's three decades of achievements in demining and the Royal Government's ongoing contributions to global clearance efforts. He emphasised the urgent need for advanced, high-efficiency detection equipment to keep pace with evolving technology and ensure safety standards. The Senior Minister noted that Cambodia currently serves as a premier testing ground for global demining technologies and extended an invitation to Lithuania to field-test its newly developed detection equipment and demining machinery within the Kingdom to verify their operational effectiveness. For his part, Foreign Minister H.E. Budrys commended Cambodia's leadership in global mine action. He specifically lauded the Kingdom's role in providing technical demining training to Ukrainian personnel and its commitment to sharing expertise with other conflict-affected nations grappling with landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW). The two sides concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to formalising a collaborative framework for future mine action initiatives.
