Cambodia and Azerbaijan Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation and Regional Issues

Phnom penh: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn held a productive meeting with H.E. Elchin Amirbayov, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Special Assignment, during the latter's working visit to Cambodia from May 9-14, 2026.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the meeting held on the morning of May 12, H.E. Prak Sokhonn extended Cambodia's warm congratulations on the historic Joint Declaration signed by Azerbaijan and Armenia, witnessed by President Donald Trump last year, and pointed out the positive progress made in Cambodia-Azerbaijan ties in recent years.

Both sides discussed ways to further strengthen their cooperation in priority areas, including politics, trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people links. They also agreed to undertake high-level exchange visits in both directions and to foster collaboration under regional and international frameworks, including the United Nations.

They exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, while underscoring the importance of upholding international law and supporting diplomatic and legal approaches for the peaceful settlement of disputes.

H.E. Deputy Prime Minister also provided an update on the current situation of the Cambodia-Thailand border issue to the visiting delegation.
