With 300-Day Countdown to SEA Games 2023, Kickboxing Getting Ready

With 300-day SEA Games 2023 countdown from today, kickboxing is optimistic of winning 3 gold medals for Cambodia as the host of the event.

In an interview with AKP, H.E. Heng Sokhorn, President of Cambodia Kickboxing Federation (CKBF), shared his impression of his athletes’ training progress and the support from the Royal Government and various sponsors.

As the time is getting closer to the games, Cambodian kickboxing athletes are training four times more than they used to, he said.

Thanks to the support from the government as well as CKBF sponsor, the training is going smoothly for both the athletes and the coaches.

Cambodia won one gold medal for kickboxing from the 31st SEA Games in May 2022 in Hanoi of Viet Nam, so the country aims to get 3 gold medals from the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, and H.E. Heng Sokhorn was confident that it is achievable.

Mr. Toch Rachhan, the winner of the gold medal at the 31st SEA Games, was committed to train hard and positive that he will win another medal when Cambodia hosts the games.

According to H.E. Heng Sokhorn, Cambodia has athletes for all kickboxing weight classes and is considering proposing some more for which the Cambodia Kickboxing Federation has highly potential athletes, both male and female.

Cambodia has proposed about 40 sport disciplines and is getting ready with them for the 32nd SEA Games 2023 whose the official opening ceremony will fall on May 5, 2023 at Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh.

It will be a historic moment for Cambodia to host the event after having waited for 64 years.

Cambodia earned 63 medals at the 31st SEA Games 2022 of them 9 were gold, 13 silver and 41 bronze, and kickboxing alone won 5 medals – 1 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze.
