UTS HOLDS 8TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY

Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS) held its 8th convocation ceremony at the Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor Hall here today, with 297 graduates receiving their degrees, including three doctorates, 26 Masters degree graduates and 268 Bachelor’s degree graduates.

The ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also UTS pro-chancellor.

In his speech during the ceremony Abang Johari said education and human capital development play a crucial role in enhancing workforce efficiency, facilitating the upward movement of economies along the value chain.

He said recognising the transformative impact of education, the Sarawak government is steadfast in its commitment to supporting underprivileged parents and students.

‘This commitment is epitomised by a groundbreaking initiative – providing the gift of free education to over 25,000 prospective students in all state-owned universities and higher learning institutions, starting from 2026.

‘This forward-thinking approach underscores the government’s dedication to fostering educational opportunities and nurturing the aspirations of the next generation,’ he added.
