Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan Launched

The Royal Government of Cambodia has officially announced the implementation of the Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan 2021-2035.

The official launching ceremony was held virtually on Oct. 20 under the presidency of H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance and Chairman of the National Committee for Tourism Development.

The government is optimistic that Siem Reap tourism will return to normal after main destinations: Kulen National Park, Banteay Srei Protected Area, Angkor Tourist Site, Tonle Sap Lake and the new Siem Reap tourist area have been developed to increase the satisfaction and attractiveness of tourists.

On the occasion, H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth urged the relevant ministries and institutions as well as the private sector to jointly strengthen the qualifications of Siem Reap to attract domestic and international tourists, such as the completion of the project of 38 roads construction which include roads for cars, roads for motorbikes, roads for bicycles, roads for pedestrians, and accelerate the development of the port of Chong Khneas to increase the attractiveness of Siem Reap so that to contribute to the recovery of tourism after the COVID-19 crisis.

The Royal Government estimates that by 2035, the number of international tourists to Cambodia will increase to 7.5 million and national tourists to 10.9 million, generating about US$5.9 billion in revenue and some 940,000 direct jobs.
