Samdech Techo Project for Mine Action to Accelerate Realisation of Mine-free Status

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on July 3 announced to create Samdech Techo Project for Mine Action (STP-MA) to boost the mine clearance work to achieve the country’s goal of becoming a mine-free nation by 2025.

Themed “Providing Safe Ground, Creating Smiles”, the project will be led, managed and coordinated by the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) chaired by Samdech Techo Prime Minister”, according to CMAA.

The initiative was born from the appeal of Samdech Techo Hun Sen while presiding over the celebration of 18th National Fisheries Day at Trapaing Thmar reservoir located in Trapaing Thmar village, Poy Char commune, Phnom Srok district, Banteay Meanchey province on July 1.

On the occasion, the Premier called on the private sector to take part in mine and UXO clearance operations in order to contribute to achieving the Cambodia’s goal as set.

According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, some particular areas need only a small fund – between US$50,000 and US$100,000 – to finish the mine clearance work for the public safety.

Following his appeal, many tycoons, the Cambodian Red Cross and charitable people have announced their financial contributions to the project.
