Royal Government and Private Sector Convene GPSWG-D Meeting

 

The Government-Private Sector Working Group D (GPSWG-D) on Law, Tax and Governance held a meeting on Aug. 3 via videoconference to discuss challenges the private sector is facing in this hard time of COID-19 pandemic.

The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, and Mr. Arnaud Darc, co-chairman of the working group.

This virtual meeting was joined by delegates from line ministries, national- and international business associations, and corporates.

According to EuroCham Cambodia, the meeting particularly focused on the quarantine requirements for residents, business owners, employees and investors, including (1) the procedure for air travelers to choose a hotel, (2) the re-opening of schools, (3) the reduction of quarantine duration, (4) the guarantee mechanism for travellers who are sponsored to enter Cambodia, and (5) the possibility of adding more hotels as quarantine centres for inbound travellers.

On the occasion, H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth encouraged all government’s concerned parties to work more closely with the private sector to solve their challenges, especially those related to quarantine duration, identification of hotels as quarantine centres, and so on, which will contribute to ensuring good environment for the private sector for the post-COVID-19 economic recovery.

GPSWG-D is one of the thirteen working groups under the Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF) which was established in 1999 to serve as a reliable dialogue mechanism for consultation between the Royal Government and the Private Sector on investment climate issues ranging from long range policy to day-to-day operations to encourage private sector initiatives, EuroCham Cambodia pointed out.

In the G-PSF, it added, Council for the Development of Cambodia acts as the secretariat and facilitates dialogue within and among the government working groups, whilst, the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) ensures the coordination of the different working groups.

H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth spoke highly and encouraged the CCC to continue its coordinating role so that the private sector sees more progress and becomes a strong partners of the Royal Government so as to contribute to promoting economic recovery, boosting diversification and enhancing national economic growth.
