Restoration Work of West Top Temple to Complete Soon

APSARA National Authority in collaboration with the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties of Japan is working to complete the restoration of the central tower of the West Top Temple in the next four to five months, announced the authority’s news release this morning.

The restoration of the West Top temple, built in the 10th century, was very difficult and time-consuming as many stones were lost and damaged, said the same source, adding that so far, almost 90 percent of the restoration work has been completed.

The remaining work is to reassemble the second pediment, which is the last part of the work scheduled to be completed as soon as possible, it pointed out.

Mr. Lam Sopheak, the project coordinator of the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, said the renovation will proceed to the temple’s front platform after that of the central tower is completed.
