PM: COVID-19 Vaccines Considered as ‘Economy’

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has considered the COVID-19 vaccines as “economy”, driving the country to fully resume its socio-economic activities and tourism movement, and build herd immunity in the society to attract foreign investment.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of China-aided hospital – named Cambodia-China Friendship Thbong Khmum Hospital in Thbong Khmum province on Monday, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that vaccinated population rate reflects the strong herd immunity in Cambodia, attracting foreign investors to the Kingdom.

“We have to boost the COVID-19 vaccination for all people,” the Premier said. “We have strong herd immunity against COVID-19. Although foreign tourists to Cambodia is still low, some foreign investors are in need to travel to Cambodia for investment.”

Travellers entering Cambodia are subject to do rapid test on arrival, but quarantine practice is not required, except those who have not had the basic doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Cambodia’s economic growth is projected at 5.6 percent in 2022, reflecting national progress towards herd immunity against COVID-19, underpinned by vaccination rates that rank among the best globally and that have motivated the government to allow the full restoration of socio-economic activities.
