Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has appealed to his compatriots to increase their attention to the COVID-19 pandemic as the Omicron subvariants – BA.4 and BA.5 – are spreading in the country.

In a special voice message this evening, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said even though the number of new confirmed cases is still low, it is at worrying level because the new subvariants have been spread from Phnom Penh capital to provinces.

The Premier reaffirmed that there will be no closure of towns, schools and markets, but urged once again his fellow citizens to adhere to the health safety rules, particularly the “Three Dos, Three Don’ts” measure and to get vaccinated, both the basic and booster doses.

“This (vaccination) is the only way to avoid disaster on human lives,” he underlined, adding that there have been almost 90 days that Cambodia registered no new death case.

As of July 12, some 94.38 percent of the total Cambodian population of 16 million have been inoculated with the basic doses. Over 9.5 million people have received the 3rd jab while about 3 million got the 4th dose, and nearly 370,000 the 5th shot.
