PM Asks People to Stick to Health Safety Measures

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has asked his compatriots to strictly follow the health safety measures, especially the 3 Dos and 3 Don’ts as the country is celebrating the 14-day Kan Ben Festival.

“Today, Sept. 22, is the first day of Kan Ben Festival of Pchum Ben, our Khmer traditional festival that has existed since ancient times. This is a time when Buddhist followers perform meritorious deeds and meet with relatives at near and far places, especially at pagodas,” wrote the Premier in a Facebook post this morning.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister also called on all competent authorities at all levels to ensure safety, security, public order, and facilitate traffic during this annual religious festival.

The two-week-long Kan Ben Festival began today in the pagodas across the country until Oct. 5.

As usual, Cambodian people go to pagodas to offer foodstuff to the monks. They believe that the monks will then convey the offering to their late ancestors.

Kan Ben is part of “Pchum Ben” Festival or the Festival for the Dead, one of the biggest festivals in Buddhism. This religious festival, which falls on the fifteenth day of Kan Ben, is to celebrate this year on Oct. 6.
