Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway to Make Transport and Travel More Efficient

The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway will make the transport of goods and passengers more efficient, as the government sets to turn Preah Sihanouk province into a multi-purpose special economic zone.

H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport said on June 7 that connecting Phnom Penh capital to Preah Sihanouk province through the expressway will contribute to developing the coastal province.

“The expressway will make the transportation of goods as well as passengers more efficient, take less time, reduce costs and make the Preah Sihanouk economic pole more prosperous,” H.E. Sun Chanthol said.

“It will play an important role in promoting the economic growth of Preah Sihanouk province,” he added.

Currently, the Royal Government of Cambodia is cooperating with China, the ironclad friend, in developing a master plan to turn Preah Sihanouk province into a multi-purpose special economic zone.

The government asks the company – Cambodian PPSHV Expressway Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Road and Bridge Corporation, which manages the expressway under the Build-Operate-Transfer contract, for free toll during the trial period, he said.

Broken ground in March 2019, the US$2 billion-worth Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville expressway stretches over 187.5 kilometres. It is expected to be opened for temporary use next month.
