MoH, KOICA Organise “National Coordination Committee Meeting” of Project for Strengthening Maternal and Child Health in North Eastern Provinces of Cambodia”

The Ministry of Health (MoH) and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) organised here at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra Hotel on May 20 the “National Coordination Committee (NCC) Meeting” of Project for Strengthening Maternal and Child Health in North Eastern Provinces of Cambodia.

H.E. Dr. Hok Kimcheng, General Director of MoH and Mr. Hyunjun RHO, KOICA Country Director chaired the meeting with the participation from all NCC Members such as Provincial Health Departments of Mondulkiri and Rattanakiri, National Maternal Child Health Centre (NMCHC), and National Centre of Health Promotion (NCHP).

According to a KOICA’s press release, the meeting aims to share information about project activities and to collect inputs from stakeholders for future plan of project implementation.

H.E. Dr. Hok Kimcheng expressed appreciation to KOICA as well as the people of the Republic of Korea for supporting this project. Through the implementation, this project has strengthened capacity of health professional through various trainings and has improved health infrastructures such as maternal and child center and medical equipment.

In addition, he continued, this project also has improved health referral system through supporting ambulance, motorboat and motorbike. Moreover, the project has also supported community awareness and outreach activities at marginal area and strengthening governance of government officer (PHD staff).

Mr. Hyunjun RHO mentioned that “The construction of 5 MCH centers will be completed soon while the project is managing procurement on medical equipment for those centres”. This year KOICA will support more ambulances with SUV type to Mondulkiri and Rattanakiri to improve quality of referral system from community to health facility while last year KOICA provided 6 ambulances to improve referral system from health center/health post to referral hospital, he added.

The Project for Strengthening Maternal and Child Health in North Eastern Provinces of Cambodia is a 4-year project (2019-2023) implemented under a grant of US$7 million of the Republic of Korea via KOICA.

The project is carried out in Rattanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces with objective to improve maternal and newborn health through improving quality and accessibility of MCH service. It focuses on 4 main areas – capacity building for health personnel, improving environment of health facilities, vitalising outreach service for marginalised areas, and raising community awareness.
