Minister Asks UNODC to Develop Cambodia’s Judiciary Resources

Minister of Justice has asked the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to develop Cambodia’s judiciary human resources.

The minister H.E. Koeut Rith made the request during a meeting with Mr. Julien Garsany, UNODC Deputy Regional Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific here in Phnom Penh on June 27.

H.E. Koeut Rith continued that the Ministry of Justice welcomed a cooperation with UNODC, especially in training Cambodian human resources at the Royal Academy for Judicial Professions, and training law enforcement officials on investigation skill set and forensic in criminal cases.

The minister also encouraged UNODC to help conduct a feasible study on criminal law regulation for necessary update to respond to the emerging context in Cambodia as well as relevant international legal instruments.

Mr. Julien Garsany thanked the justice minister for sharing update on Cambodia’s criminal judicial system, and the ministry’s reform vision for the legal and justice system.

He also shared with the minister on the good cooperation between UNODC and concerned institutions including the national police and prison department.

UNODC will continue promoting the collaboration with the ministry in the future, he affirmed.
