The French government has pledged to increase the amount of annual cooperation financing to 100-200 million euros in the form of concession loan to Cambodia for a six-year period, from 2021 to 2026, focusing on the development of Cambodia.
The commitment was made known during a meeting via Videoconference yesterday afternoon between H.E. Vongsey Vissoth, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Mr. Rémi Genevey, Representative of the French Agency for Development (AFD) and H.E. Ms. Eva Nguyen Binh, Ambassador of France to Cambodia.
H.E. Vongsey Vissoth stated that France is not only a friend and a leading country contributing to bringing peace to Cambodia, but also an important development partner in providing both technical and financial support after the Paris Peace Accords.
Based on this, Cambodia has received successively cooperation financing of approximately 867 million euros, of which state concessional loans amounted to 507 million euros, he said.
The funds have been actively contributing to supporting the development and boosting the economic growth in line with the main programmes and policies of the Royal Government of Cambodia from one mandate to another, he stressed.
From 2018 to 2021, France, through AFD, has provided Cambodia with more than 240 million euros for clean water, education and capacity building, rural infrastructure rehabilitation, agricultural development, climate change mitigation, and post-COVID-19 tourism recovery projects.
