Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn Discusses Cooperation Promotion with Qatar Counterpart

AKP Phnom Penh, August 03, 2022 — H.E. Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, had a bilateral meeting with visiting H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, on Aug. 3, on the sidelines of the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings in Phnom Penh.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation made public this evening, in the bilateral meeting, Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn extended his warm welcome and congratulations upon Qatar’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn and Deputy PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani shared commitment to further strengthen the cooperation between both countries, especially on economy and tourism as well as to push for the establishment of business relations.

Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn suggested Qatar to send a business delegation to take part in the 15th Cambodian and Import-Export Goods Exhibition to be held in Phnom Penh from Dec. 15-18 this year in order to explore business and trade opportunity. Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn also proposed to sign an MOU on tourism cooperation.

The two Foreign Ministers had an exchange of views and discussion on some regional and international issues of common interests and shared the common views to preserve the multilateralism and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter. They agreed to support each other on the international arena.

Deputy PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani extended an invitation to Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn to visit Qatar as soon as possible to explore together the opportunity for bilateral promotion.

On the same day, H.E. Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani also paid a a courtesy call on Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
