Cambodia’s Banknote of 15,000 Riel Wins Best New Banknote Award from Reconnaissance International

The 15,000 Riel banknote issued in 2019 to mark the 15th anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Coronation Day (Oct. 29) has been recognised as the Best New Banknote, at the Reconnaissance International’s 18th High Security Printing Asia (HSP Asia) Conference in Yokohama, Japan recently.

The good news was shared by H.E. Chea Chanto, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, in his letter dated April 8 to Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, quoted by the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of the Office of the Council of Ministers.

According to H.E. Governor, the commemorative 15,000 Riel banknote was recognised by its outstanding technical excellence in the design and security.

On behalf of Reconnaissance International, he added, Mr. Antonio Cesario Ricdo, Vice President of Landqart AG of Switzerland, paid a visit to Cambodia on April 6, 2022 and conferred the 2019 Asia-Pacific Best New Banknote Award upon the National Bank of Cambodia.

HSP Asia provides a series of awards such as Best New Series, Best New Banknote, and Best New Commemorative Banknote, pointed out its online source.

The 15,000 Riel banknote is 170-mm-long and 75-mm-wide with three dominant colours – purple, pink, and blue. It depicts the portrait of His Majesty the King on the front and the picture of His Majesty the King and his parents on the back, along with the sentence “Congratulations the 15th Anniversary of the Coronation of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni (29 October 2004-29 October 2019).”
