Cambodians Not Allowed to Volunteer for Military Service in Ukraine

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said that the Cambodian Constitution does not neither allow Cambodia to dispatch its forces abroad, except under the UN umbrella, nor authorise outside forces to base in Cambodia.

Therefore, Cambodian citizens are not allowed to volunteer for military service in Ukraine, he underlined at the inauguration of Cambodia-China Friendship Thbong Khmum Hospital in Thbong Khmum provincial city this morning.

Regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, Samdech Techo Hun Sen called for a ceasefire on the ground in Ukraine.

“The best solution to the current Russia-Ukraine war is negotiation. Negotiation starts from the ceasefire, and most importantly the ceasefire on the ground,” he said, adding that all sides need to stop wherever they are and start negotiating.

The negotiations should be conducted two ways, one is between Russia and Ukraine to solve their bilateral conflict, and the other is between Russia and NATO concerning Russia’s security concerns, he continued.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister also explained the reasons leading to the Cambodian government’s decision to join the co-sponsoring of the Resolution of the Emergency Special Session of the UN General Assembly on the situation in Ukraine.
