Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Chair of ASEAN for 2022, has expressed his concern over the global food crisis next year.

Speaking at the Discussion with Stakeholders under the theme “Strategic Outlook on ASEAN” on May 24 as part of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2022 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the impact from COVID-19 pandemic now has gradually declined, but that from Russia-Ukraine war is becoming severe.

Many countries, including Cambodia, have been suffering from energy crisis, but next year there would be global food crisis, he said, calling for solutions as soon as possible.

Anyway, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said, ASEAN may not face serious problems, as about half of ASEAN member nations are rice-producers.

“Now some countries are facing two-way disaster, one from the Russia-Ukraine war and the other from sanctions. The sanctions should be discontinued, it is useless, even for the countries that are imposing sanctions on Russia,” the Prime Minister underlined.
