Cambodian PM to Attend 4th Asia-Pacific Water Summit in Japan

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen will attend the 4th Asia-Pacific Water Summit (APWS) in Japan, which was postponed last April because of the COVID-19 pandemic if his COVID-19 PCR test is negative.

“Tomorrow, I will have the PCR test for COVID-19 as required by Japan to prevent the pandemic, and then I will fly to Japan for the water forum and expect to return home on April 24,” he said at the inauguration ceremony of the achievements for the flood prevention and drainage improvement project in Phnom Penh-Phase IV.

The 4th APWS will take place in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu of Japan on April 23-24 under the theme of “Water for Sustainable Development – Best Practices and the Next Generation”.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen will be among the high-level delegates, including heads of state and representatives from international organisations in the Asia-Pacific region.

The 4th APWS will also share with the world the long-standing efforts of the host city, Kumamoto, in conserving groundwater as well as its recovery efforts from the 2016 earthquake.

The outcomes of the 4th APWS discussions are expected to make a great contribution to lead the achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to the Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) online source.

APWS is the summit-level conference for top government leaders in the region, focusing on water issues and sustainable development, which is organised by the APWF and the host country.

The 3rd APWS in 2017 was held in Myanmar and adopted the Yangon Declaration to show the direction for sustainable development with a perspective on water.
