Cambodian Foreign Minister to Attend 7th MLC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Next Week

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn will attend the 7th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to be held in Bagan, Myanmar on July 4.

The participation will be made at the invitation of H.E. U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, following H.E. Prak Sokhonn’s second working visit to Myanmar as the Special Envoy of ASEAN Chair, according to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued this evening.

The 7th MLC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, under the theme “Solidarity for Peace and Prosperity”, will be a platform for the MLC Foreign Ministers to evaluate the progress made in the implementation of the Five-Year Plan of Action of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (2018-2022), chart future directions for broadening cooperation, and further strengthen the bonds of friendship and mutual support between the Mekong Countries and China, in the spirit of promoting socio-economic development, particularly at the time of unprecedented global threat, the source pointed out.

On the margins of the meeting, it added, the Cambodian top diplomat and other MLC Foreign Ministers will also attend the unveiling ceremony of the MLC National Coordination Unit (Myanmar) Building.

Availing his stay in Bagan, H.E. Prak Sokhonn is expected to have separate bilateral meetings with other MLC Foreign Ministers in order to further strengthen bilateral relations as well as cooperation within the MLC framework for the sustainable development in the region and beyond, the press release concluded.
