Cambodian Commerce Minister Calls for Cancellation of Required Documents for Export from LDCs

Required documents for export from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) such as proof of non-manipulation or Certificate of Origin which increase the cost for export should be cancelled and replaced with self-certification.

The suggestion was made by H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce of Cambodia, while attending a discussion on “Solving trade barriers for recovery” as part of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2022 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland on May 23.

H.E. Pan Sorasak laid stress on the significance and necessity to remove and reduce trade barriers through trade facilitation in the country, the region and the world, an important way for rapid economic recovery.

H.E. Minister mentioned about the necessity of opening markets for trade and action plan focusing on improvement of economic connectivity and strengthening of global supply chain, which are the priorities of ASEAN under Cambodia’s chairmanship under the theme “ASEAN: Addressing Challenges Together.”

He further pointed out Cambodia’s activities in trade facilitation such as the launch of Strategic Framework and Programmes for Economic Recovery in the Context of Living with COVID-19 in a New Normal 2021-2023, Government-Private Sector Forum, Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA), National Single Window, and some reforms which fuel the release of goods, both general merchandises and medical materials during the COVID-19 crisis, at border areas.

The minister also talked about the Improving Small Package E-Trade for SMEs (SeT4SME) project with Global Alliance for trade facilitation to create full Electronic Advance Data through the combination of ASYCUDA and Customs Declaration System of Cambodia Post.
