The Ministry of Environment is planning to designate Boeung Prek Lapouv Protected Landscape in Takeo province as a Ramsar Site.
H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Environment, has recently underlined the importance of this area in terms of natural resources to support local communities’ livelihoods and habitats for migratory birds and many other rare species such as Yellow Breasted Bunting, Sarus crane, Giant ibis, and so on.
Cambodia has currently five wetlands of international importance or Ramsar Sites, including Boeung Chhmar and Associated River System and Floodplain, Koh Kapik and Associated Islets, Middle Stretches of Mekong River North of Stung Treng, Prek Toal Ramsar Site, and Stung Sen Ramsar Site.
