The Royal Government of Cambodia will kick off the vaccination campaign of children aged from 6 to 12 years old against the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday this week.

The upcoming vaccination campaign was announced by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning via a voice message.

The Premier will preside over the official launching ceremony of the national vaccination campaign of children aged from 6 to 12 years old here at the Peace Palace, followed by a press conference.

“If we don’t inoculate this age group, we cannot reopen our primary schools,” he underlined.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said there are nearly 1.9 million children aged from 6 to 12 years old in the country.

The next step will be the vaccination of children from 3 to 6 years old, the Prime Minister added.

Cambodia has been conducting three COVID-19 vaccination campaigns: for the 18 years old and up, the 12 to under 18 years old, and the 3rd dose or booster dose.

As of Sept. 14, for the target of 10 million adults, 9,773,960 people have obtained their first jab, or 97.74 percent, among them 8,681,113 have been fully vaccinated.

For the children-youth aged 12 to under 18 years old, 1,715,701 or 87.23 percent of the nearly two-million target have received their first dose, while 1,082,044 already got their second dose.

Moreover, the booster doses have been administered to 790,111 people.

If we add all the figures, Cambodia has so far vaccinated about 71.81 percent of the total population of 16 million
