The number of foreign tourists to Cambodia dropped by 93 percent in the first quarter of this year to 70,000, according to the quarterly report from the Ministry of Tourism.

Thai tourists topped the list with 35,294 arrivals, accounting for 49.8 percent of the total foreign arrivals in Cambodia, while Chinese tourists stayed second with 23,837.

Some 47 percent of foreign tourists arrived in Cambodia by air while the rest by road and waterway.

Cambodian outbound tourists was recorded at only 5,509, a 98 percent decline during the period.

Tourism Ministry is now working with Ministry of Health and relevant ministries and institutions to allow tourists already vaccinated against the deadly coronavirus to visit the Kingdom.

This initiative would be implemented in the last quarter of this year. It is aimed to revive the tourism sector hit hard by the pandemic.

Last year, Cambodia welcomed 1.3 million international holiday makers, a year-on-year decrease of 80 percent.
